No sound in Camera app when editing videos with iOS 18

Previously under iOS 17, you would hear the sound of the video when dragging the trim slider while editing a video in the Camera app.

Using iOS 18, there is no sound. I can't tell where to trim my videos. I intentionally trim around the "bad" sounds and now I'm no longer able to do that.

Why was this feature removed in iOS 18?

I found the solution for this undocumented change in iOS 18:

While editing the video, move the trim slider (sound scrubber) with one finger (keep it pressed) and press the play button with another finger. After doing this, you will hear the sound of the video as you move the trim slider.

As stated, the iOS camera app. In iOS 17, you can hear the sound of the video when you drag the trim (start/end) sliders while playing the video. This is imperative for my use case as I edit around the "bad" sounds.

In iOS 18, the sound playback while editing is no longer there. One reason I reach for my iPhone 15 Pro Max instead of the 16 Pro Max.

Pretty strange how new technology gets worse and worse over time.

Ah so maybe it's the Photos app that I use to edit videos on the iPhone. Now that makes complete sense! Anyway it changes nothing.

Here's the steps to reproduce the issue:

iOS 17

Go to Camera app

Tap a video you've already taken

Tap the Edit button

Press the play button

Drag the trim sliders while the video plays

You hear audio (sound) from the video as you drag and slide

iOS 18

Go to Camera app

Tap a video you've already taken

Tap the Edit button

Press the play button

Drag the trim sliders while the video plays

You hear NO audio (sound) from the video as you drag and slide

It's pretty obvious now that Apple removed this feature since I was only one out of billions of users actually using it. I'll continue to use my iPhone 15 Pro Max until iOS 18 is forced upon it and/or the iPhone 17 Pro Max is released with an upgraded telephoto camera. Boy, I'm a genius!
