iPhone SE, iOS 17
Upgrade to iOS 18.1 for this to work.
You have three solutions. The first two are almost identical
Open the Settings app.
Tap on your name at the top (aka your Apple Account settings).
Tap on iCloud.
Tap on Notes.
Turn on "Sync this iPhone" (green = on). If it is already on, turn it off and on again.
In the Notes app, wait several minutes for your notes to be restored from iCloud.
Go to Settings and search for iCloud
2) Select iCloud Apple ID (at the top of the list)
3) Under ‘Apps using iCloud’ select Show All
4) Select Notes
5) Turn off ‘Sync this Phone’ and wait for a few seconds
6) Turn ‘Sync this Phone’ back on
iPhone, go to Settings >
[your name] > iCloud,
turn off Notes,
restart your iPhone and
turn Notes back on.
Wait a few minutes for the notes to be downloaded from iCloud.

That was a wrench, 200+ recipies vanished! Just two quick notes left…
iPad Pro with notes synced to iCloud.
Still on iOS 17.1 so did a full shutdown/reboot and lo they started to synch.
Whew
Thanks. This worked on iOS 17.7 didn’t have to upgrade to iOS 18
Time to start thinking about adding your Notes to another format or app.
I recently had to sign in to Apple account and then discovered many of my notes are gone. I researched it and did everything you suggested but it did not bring up my
notes at all. What to do now? Are they gone forever?
Well found this Tutorial on the net this morning, on how to get Notes working on a iPhone and probably on a iPad
Indeed - I can print them I guess, make a cookbook :) - anything online is inherently subject to loss - frying pan meet fire.
Thanks! This worked without updating to iOS 18. Running iOS 17.7 on 12mini 128gb
Thanks that works ! notes are restored phew scary moment
Turning sync off then back on worked, thank you!
