Can't transfer photos from iPhone to Mac via USB

I don't store my photos on the Cloud so have always transferred photos from phone to Mac using a wired connection. Since updating to Sequoia and iOS 18.1 this method no longer works.

I can still import photos from my phone to Lightroom Classic so there's nothing wrong with the connection.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

I have just transferred photos from iPhone 18.1 to Mac 15.1 using wired USB connection and the Mac's Image Capture app. Make sure your phone is unlocked and it should appear in the left hand panel of the app where you can click on it and then download pics to a folder.

I'm not quite sure what's not working. Is Lightroom not on you Mac?

In any case, have you tried the using the app Image Capture that's in the Applications folder? It is sometimes more versatile.

I'm not totally sure how Photos transfers like that work-- I always import pictures from my camera's SD card to Finder, and then from Finder to Photos. I keep the Finder copies as backup.
