Apple ID for small businesses

I work for a small publishing company (26 employees) and I'm looking for a way to effectively have a company Apple ID to which I can register all of our Macs to be able to locate, disable or wipe them in the case of them being lost or stolen. Our IT company recommended Jamf but feel like it's using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Does anyone else have any suggestions, please?

Using a single Apple ID for this is not only not recommended, it's also against the terms of use.

You'll want to start with Apple Business Manager for the IDs and purchasing of apps. It's free to set up (paid apps still cost money of course).

Next, you'll want to find a Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform. This allows you to manage devices including locking, disabling, or wiping. There are many platforms out there. Some of the popular ones are Jamf (Now and Pro), Kandji, Mosyle, Intune, and Apple Business Essentials (paid add-on to Apple Business Manager that adds MDM features). They range in price from $1/device/month to $8+/device/month.

This page has a great comparison to use as a starting point: https://github.com/hkystar35/MDM/blob/main/Apple/MDM%20Comparison%20Table.md
