You will need to wait for it to make an internet connection or have another iPhone come within bluetooth range of your device. Your data is safe and the person will not be able to reset your device or access any of your data. Be aware that many scammers can send you fake messages that claim they are from Apple saying your device has been found. These just want you to enter your account credentials so they can reset the phone.

A thief can remove the SIM card and also use faraday bags to prevent any outside connection on the device so you will not be able to see its location. They can also smash the phone making it unfindable. Some things are out of your control and there would be not way to find a device when it is unable to transmit its location. Review this support article for the next steps if you cannot find it, like contacting local law enforcement and your cellular provider.

What is the message that appears when you try to locate the phone?

No Device Found.......indicates that Find My was likely not enabled on the phone

Offline.....indicates that one or more of the following conditions exist at the present time

  • The battery has run down
  • The phone was powered off and there are no other phones in close proximity to pick up a signal
  • The phone does not have an Internet connection where it is currently located

Keep in mind also that iPhone thieves are very fond of placing a stolen phone in a special type of small bag that will not allow the phone to either send or receive a signal at all. So, the phone might be operating normally otherwise, but it will never appear in Find My.

Unfortunately, there is not really anything that you can do about this except keep checking a few times each day to see if the status of the phone has changed.
