Watching Apple TV bought films on a Samsung TV using the Apple TV+ app.

I have Apple devices, iPhone, iPad, etc. Last week I purchased a new movie (Fly Me To The Moon) on my iPad and watched it there. I now want to watch it again on my regular Samsung TV via the Apple TV+ app which works for most things.

I've signed in and I can't see any of my purchased movies. I have a basic menu and can access things that are free with my subscription but with no option to purchase anything that would be chargeable. So I searched for Fly Me To The Moon and it comes up and says: "Coming at a later date" which suggests it can't allow me to watch it here.

I would expect that if I'd bought something (several movies as well as Fly Me) that I would be able to watch them on a big tv screen rather than my iPad only. iPads can't broadcast to a big screen either (I assume Apple prevents that) so I can't view that way.

Is this a limitation of the app on my Samsung?

Is there a solution? If I invest in a small Apple TV box would that facilitate this and would it connect successfully and play through my Samsung TV? (additional cost around £150)

Since 2019, select modern Samsung TVs from 2018 or later would get the full Apple TV app, with Store and Library.

Since 2021, any Samsung smart TV from 2017 or later that wasn’t previously supported, would get the specialized Apple TV+ app (with a Plus in the name and on the app tile). Standalone Apple TV+ app launches on older Samsung TVs - FlatpanelsHD

Newer models from 2021 or later should all get the full Apple TV app.

The full Apple TV app and the specialized Apple TV+ app differ in capabilities:

Get the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ app on your smart TV or streaming device - Apple Support

Unfortunately, these two app editions aren’t user choice, but one or the other will be available depending on exact model TV, as agreed upon between the manufacturer and Apple.

To get access to the full Apple TV app on any unsupported TV, you may consider connecting an external streaming device that supports the full Apple TV app. That can be an Apple TV box, Roku, Fire TV, PlayStation (4, 5), Xbox (One, One S, X, S), ‘Chromecast with Google TV’-dongle, Nvidia Shield TV box.

Alternatively, you may connect an iPhone or iPad or Mac with a HDMI adapter to a TV.

I've had the TV for about 10 years now so it's now a new one but is supposed to be 'Smart'. Obviously there's 'Smart' and 'SMART'

I have the older one with the basic Apple TV+ app therefore so can't do what I thought. The work around will do, I will for now get an adaptor to stream from my iPad to the TV if that works. I imagine I'll get a new TV in the next couple of years but it's not something I'm keen on doing. If something isn't broken then why fix and besides, the adapter is inexpensive.
