iPhone 12 Pro is not registering numeric pad inputs during calls

When I receive an incoming automatic call that requires input from my numeric pad, it isn't registering with the person/company calling. This is happening when Apple calls me back for a service call. I can never get through to them, so they hang up. I restarted the phone and it still isn't working. I tried chat and the guy wasn't able to help. It is happening on my husband's phone, apple 12 Pro, and mine apple 16 Pro. Really need this fixed.

I was finally able to get a support agent on the phone. He said to get to the greyed out/black numeric keyboard you press the "phone" on the top of the screen of the phone that is in the black area. That will bring up the correct keypad for input on automated incoming calls. It is the same black area that is always on your phone at the top. Right now, mine is showing a "lock". Hope that is clear.
