The iPod should show up, according to which operating system you use on your computer, either:

    • on an older Mac, using OS Mojave or earlier, or on a Windows PC, iTunes
    • on a newer Mac, using OS Catalina or later, use Finder

and you will be able to add your own purchased music.

Any music belonging to the previous owner, that is currently on the iPod, is not legally yours to keep. If and when you Sync the iPod with your iTunes Library, you will see a warning message telling you that a Sync will remove all the existing content from the iPod and replace it with the content in your library.

Note also:

  • it will not be able to make use of the Apple Music subscription service. You will not be able to add music from Apple Music onto it
  • on a Windows PC, if you have installed the Apple Music app. or the Apple Devices/Apple TV app. iTunes will not show your purchased music. You will need to uninstall those apps
