Monosound to Stereo in iMovie

Hello,

Very frustrated.

I have a movie which should have been in stereo (according to my speaker settings), but turned out to be mono and is now coming only from the left speaker. I've searched the site for a solution to have the audio come out of both speakers, and found a great thread from Sayana95 from May 31, 2023.

I went to follow through on this solution and I'm disappointed to see that the current version of iMovie 10.4.2 does not offer the option in Share, that to select Share>Export as a Quicktime file. Then choosing the appropriate video and sound settings as outlined in this solution. I do not have Final Cut Pro.

Is there an updated solution to this problem that can help me?

evoura,

Plug in your earphones to bypass your speakers and see if you get L,R sound. If you get L,R sound through your earphones that would indicate that the issue likely resides with your speaker settings or with the right side speaker itself. Your intended You Tube video may actually be playing from both L and R channels but your physical speaker on the right side is not picking it up. But if your earphones are playing both channels you should be good to go. I would suspect in that case that both channels would play when uploaded to You Tube.

I mention this because on my Mac I have a crack in my right side speaker that causes horrible static. It carried over to my You Tube upload. So I turned off the right side from my Audio MIDI settings and now get normal sound playing only from my left speaker. However, when I plug in my earphones I get normal sound from both left and right ear pods, confirming that the issue is not systemic to the movie itself. When I uploaded to You Tube with my earphones plugged in, it played both L and R.

Thanks Rich,

I did try that...sadly...no, the sound is just coming from the left.

I even had my kid open the file on their computer to be sure it is was just left on a different system.

Even more sadly, the problem was on a couple of other videos/podcast that are already active as well, and since I edit without headphones (I've now learned my lesson) on a laptop with not the best speakers, I didn't notice it. I'd love to fix it on the next two that I have in the queue if I can.

I don't understand what happened with the microphone - Yeti Blue - as the setting on the dial is correct.

I hope someone will have a solution that I can follow.

Learning curve is a steep one sometimes....
