TV App ads start automatically

When I open the app, ads start automatically, I don't even get the homescreen. It scrolls through half a dozen ads them the screen goes blank.

I can't do anything other than come out of the app.

It's a Toshiba TV.

Using the VIDAA or Android TV smart app platform, presumably?

Joining via Virgin Media.

Ok. Did you redeem a 3 months free trial through them? Excellent!

Is the app on the smart TV, or on the Virgin stream box? Either way should work.

The ads are Apple TV shows - Slow Horses, Bad Sisters etc.

As intended.

But you should be able to navigate up to access the sidebar, which includes in-app Settings to sign in with your Apple Account. You should be able to navigate down to access the complete catalog.

If you are not yet signed in to the app, then you would see a splash page with QR code, and a button to sign in with the remote (through an on-screen keyboard) for when not using a QR code.

If you are successfully signed in to the app, then you would see an account icon at the top-left, some promotional material in the middle below that, and an overview of show tiles below that. Navigating down would bring more tiles than just the first row.

I can't watch a show on another device either. I can open the app, but choosing a show from the homescreen just brings up an error message.

What other device?

What does the error message say exactly?
