When animating a Shape, working in the Transform mode, changing the animation arrows from linear to smooth, causes FCP 10.8.1 to fail to play the animation, and sometimes eventually freezes.

Start by deleting preferences, and do so again any time the application crashes.
To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting the application and click Delete Custom Settings. The application will start with default settings and open an "Untitled" library. Adjust the settings, reopen the library you were working, and see how it works now.
Does the problem persist after deleting the preferences?
