Share mouse and keyboard between iMac and MacBook Air

I've problems to use my wireless keyboard and mouse between both devices.

They are connected with a thunderbolt 4 cable.

Sharing same Apple keyboard/mouse between two Macs with different apple IDs and on different ports of same display Hi, I currently have a M3 macbook pro (this is from my work) and a M2 mac mini (this is personal) - both connected to a Dell monitor - MBP thru USB C port that monitor has and Mac mini thru HDMI port. Each device is on a different apple ID. Here is the problem - I am trying to use one apple keyboard and mouse across the 2 devices and never simultaneously (since I will be switching the input port on the display), however I have discovered that this switching isnt seamless via bluetooth - I always have to re-pair the keyboard and mouse thru a cable to switch from 1 device to other - this is very painful. Any solution ideas?

When using wireless keyboards or mice, they can only be selected for one device at a time, just as they may only be physically connected to one device at a time.
