iPhone 16 Pro 18.1 no longer playing sound for incoming Messages nor showing banners

My iPhone 16 Pro on iOS 18.0.1 no longer plays the default Note sound for incoming Messages and no longer shows the banner preview.

I've checked Notifications settings and they're all on default.

Sounds & Haptics settings are also on default and the volume slider is set to about 40%.

Silent mode is off.

Focus is also off.

Bluetooth is off to make sure it's not connected to my AirPods. Speaker works fine because I tried playing a YouTube video and it was fine.

Edit: Just updated to 18.1 and I still have the same issue.

Me too. I've a new iPhone 16 Pro and I can't get mail notification sounds or haptics. I've rung Apple three times and wasted a lot of time with them. They advise a test that the phone is physically fine (they do it over the phone) and then advise a "restore". I've restored and ... no difference whatsoever. I've talked on three occasions to Apple Support and they can't do anything about it and don't seem to know what to do. I think it is a bug and will be eventually ironed out but Apple won't admit, I'm afraid, and it tarnishes their former reputation.

I'm used to iPhones and know my way around the menus. Notification centre, individual apps. I don't use Siri, or Focus. I know about the mute button (and in any case I get phone calls, with the sound and haptics working).

Thanks Apple for your help and advice. My phone, including Apple two year service, only cost £1300.
