Just read Apple won't release any more updates for Monterey but I am not sure I have 'enough space' (or need) to get to Sequoia right now. Is it better to go Ventura OR Sonoma ?

That 45GB of space for Sequoia probably includes the installer itself, plus the space it needs to unpack and install the OS. But once it's done, it takes up less than 20GB of space.
Great of you to let me know Ventura has hiccups, thanks! I agree and wish I would simply upgrade to Sequoia but I am still at Monterey...so skipping many OS is unusual for me (for one) and I read many warnings Re: Sequoia about the need for at least 45G on hard disk, which is rather tight for me at this time...
I'll have to see...hopefully I'll do 'the right thing'!
Ventura was a complete redesign of much of the OS. It had a lot of bugs and quirks.
But generally, always upgrade to the newest OS your Mac supports.
