My webcam quality decreased significantly after the latest update this month 11/24.

I have a Macbook M1 Pro 2021 and the webcam was working fine before this. Does anyone know any solution other than restarting the computer and checking for updates, which I've already done?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.1

Are you saying the Resolution is down?


A. Boot in Safe Mode:

See what happens when you boot in Safe Mode. You'd open FaceTime, and see if it is any different. While booted in Safe Mode, Login Items do no open at login. Also, caches are fixed, which are used for ease of app opening. Go here: Start up your Mac in Safe Mode - Apple Support


B. Single-Out this User:

For troubleshooting purposes, create an Administrator user, and see if you ge this error while logged into it. If so, then this is a system-wide door. If not, then it is an error confined to your current user. Trash this user once this troubleshooting is complete.


C. Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be deleted. It's just that items that have become corrupted or deleted, would be replaced or reinstalled back to where they should be. Go Here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple SupportImportant: Be certain to create a backup of your Mac prior to performing the reinstall. That way, you can have something to restore from the Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Once reinstalled, try this once more, seeing if you still get this error.


D. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Report this to AppleApple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback Apple receives on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in upcoming updates. Apple will know nothing of this occurrence, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: "Software/Firmware Update" for the "Feedback Area"
  4. Comment: that this all started after installing an update, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL to this thread.
  5. Proceed from there as necessary
