Hostname changed to "Mac.lan" for no reason

I believe it's the second time happening in a few months or so, the hostname of my MacBook Air M3 15 inch running macOS Sequoia 15.1 changed to "Mac.lan" on its own for no obvious reason while the "Name" in Settings remain as is. Though a simple reboot resetting everything back to order, but still make me curious what might have caused such change?

I'm seeing this too:

mac$ hostname
mac.lan
mac$

In settings, the Local hostname is MacBook-Air.local. I've tried resetting on the terminal to via "sudo hostname" and it will soon revert back to "mac.lan" no matter what I change it too.

This is Sequoia 15.1.1. The terminal hostname has matched the Local hostname from settings forever and just recently started getting changed to "mac.lan" within the past 2-3 weeks.
