Can’t Log in to my admin account on Macbook

I made my boyfriend a standard account on my MacBook. And I can’t get back into my account. I’ve tried going to settings in his account and messing with the user and groups setting. But everything keeps saying my password is wrong, but it’s not. I haven’t changed my password or anything. Also I literally got this computer yesterday. Brand new.

Is your MacBook Air have an Intel or Apple Silicon CPU?

Regardless, you will need to boot up your laptop in Recovery Mode to reset the Administrator account's password.

For Silicon: Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support

For Intel: Use macOS Recovery on an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

Once in Recovery Mode:

  1. Select Utilities > Terminal
  2. In Terminal, type: resetpassword, and then, press Enter. This should open the password reset tool.
