Can I save my photos in iPad without being able to unlock my iPad?

I'm am wanting to know if I can save my photos from my iPad without being able to unlock my iPad? I have some important photos which I took on Friday and haven't had time to download them.

I was playing with it yesterday and normally I don't have a lock code on it and I set up finger print ID and it asked for a 6 digit code which I put in, but obviously I wasn't concentrating as I put it in and it is not the one I had chosen. Now I am locked out and it's saying I should reset it. I believe this will wipe everything off my iPad!!!!!
