iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cannot update to iOS 17

Hello and welcome to the thread.

You have an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, and wish to update to iOS 15.

Nope. Not supported.

iOS 12 is the end of the line for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 Plus; to iOS 12.5.7, currently.

You’ll need a newer (used, refurb) or new iPhone.

An iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S Plus can update to iOS 15; to iOS 15.8.2, currently.

Any recent iPhone will be substantially more capable than an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, or 6S Plus, as well.

The title of your post appears to be a complaint ("iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cannot update to iOS 17"). The body of your post appears to be a cut-and-paste of someone's answer from another thread. If you read that thread, you already know the answer.

  • iOS 12 is the end of the line for the iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus. They cannot update to iOS 13 or later.
  • iOS 15 is the end of the line for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. They cannot update to iOS 16 or later.

This will not change. If you have any of these iPhones, and you want to run an app that requires iOS 17 or later, you will need to replace the outdated iPhone with a newer one. (I could be mistaken, but I believe that all iPhones which can run iOS 17 can also run iOS 18, so at this point, a new phone would be likely to come with iOS 18.)
