Copy and paste without line breaks?

I recently updated to Sequoia and am experiencing an issue in all text-processing software that I use on a regular basis – predominantly OneNote, but also Pages and Word. Namely, whenever I copy and paste text from a PDF, it pastes with all the line breaks in the original document.

This is something that I only recall happening occasionally in the past. I've tried to paste without formatting (Shift + Option + Cmd + V), but while it removes the formatting in the original text, it preserves the line breaks. I've tried removing line breaks manually in Word via Find and Replace – and this works ok, but it is really time consuming and disrupts my workflow considerably.

Is there anything else that could be done? Thanks in advance.
