Same problem
Mac Studio, macOS 15.1
Gracias
Same problem… as what? Maybe you wanted to reply to someone but you started a new thread and you have not given any information.
If you want others to help, please describe your problem clearly and also tell us what versions of FCP and macOS you have -I can see your profile says Mac Studio and 15.1 - is that right?
excuse me , yes it was a reply to other thread :
reply to : Using a hotkey to switch to the Hand tool to move the timeline, and then immediately left-clicking the timeline to move it with the Hand tool, causes the timeline to jump erratically to the left. Seemingly, when using a hotkey to switch to the Hand tool, there is a brief window after pressing the hotkey during which interacting with the timeline with the Hand causes the timeline to jump abruptly away from you.
Edit additional testing - it seems to be caused by holding the Hand tool hotkey and left-clicking the timeline and moving the mouse, which for some reason tries to drag the view to the start of the timeline.
Reproduce: hold the Hand tool hotkey (for instance H), then hold the left-click on the timeline which causes the Hand cursor to grab, and then move the mouse in any direction to gently drag. This will cause the timeline view to shoot to the start of the timeline, while also fighting to move in the direction you are trying to drag it.
Having used FCP for years this has only started happening recently. Tried with different keyboards, different mice, and after rebooting, problem still persists. Currently having to edit at a more hunt-and-peck pace to get around this bug.
Thank you for elaborating.
I have tried it in FCP 11, and I can reproduce the problem.
FWIW, this is probably the first time I have ever used the Hand tool :-)
If you are wondering why, it is simply because I use a MacBook Pro, and just use the scroll gesture to move the timeline. I can certainly understand how this tool in handy (pun intended) when using a mouse.
(I also never use the Zoom tool, either)
The problem, just as you describe, seems to only occur when holding the H key down. It makes it impossible to quickly move the timeline and get back to the select tool by just releasing the key.
Does you mouse have a scroll wheel? You could scroll horizontally by holding down the Shift key and using the wheel (at least I think this works; I cannot test due to not having a mouse at hand).
The problem also occurs for me in 10.8.1.
