iphone 14 not connecting via bluetooth but iphone 8 will

I installed a Victron shunt to monitor a battery. It has bluetooth to enable the monitoring on a cell phone. I downloaded the victron app on my iphone 14 and made sure the shunt was in pairing mode. Then I tried via the victron app and via the general iphone bluetooth pairing to try to pair with the victron shunt. Neither could find the shunt. I assumed the shunt was bad and installed a new one. The exact same thing happened. Then out of desperation, I got out my old iphone 8 and downloaded the victron app. The iphone 8 saw the shunt via bluetooth and paired immediately. My iphone 14 has paired with all the other devices I use. What would cause it to not pair with this shunt when my iphone 8 is happy to pair.

That’s a nice looking product!

Check the manual for the Victron and see how many devices it can pair with simultaneously. In your experimentation if you paired it beyond those limits you may have to reset the pairing mode of the Victron. It might just be easier to factory reset it following the manufacturer’s instructions. And follow the instructions carefully; it may use BLE, which pairs a device with an app rather than with a phone. In that case only the app can be used to pair it.

And you can always contact Victron support.

Two long shots:

  • Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN.

  • Reset Network Settings:

  • Open Settings
    • Tap General
    • Tap Transfer or Reset Phone
    • Tap  Reset
    • Tap Reset Network Settings

    • This will erase all Wi-Fi passwords, but will not result in any other data loss.

Thanks Lawrence,

With both the first and the second shunt I only ever tried with the Victron app and no other phone. Then after I got desperate, I tried the iphone 8. When that worked immediately, I wrote Victron and explained what had happened. The guy at Victron's response was that he uses iphones in the 13-16 version ranges with the shunts and it always works for him. It is very frustrating.
