What is the difference between setting up an Apple tag as device vs an item?

Hi,

I have set up the apple tag with my phone. But I cant see the tag via the iCloud browser on the "find my" page? I can see my iPhone. I want to be able to see the tag also by the "find my" in my web browser - not just via my iPhone.

From the "find my" app I can see the iPhone, and under "items" I can see the tag.

Have I messed up the setup? Should I remove and reconnect it as a "device"? What is the difference between adding as a device and an item?

When I choose add device there is an option for apple tag, when I select add tag, it just searches but never connects to the tag that is right next to it (yet on the items page it has found the tags location on the map).

Help!

Thank you.

Hello Williams2288,

Based on my research, AirTags are always classified as Items in the Find My app. The iCloud browser only displays your Devices. As such, you can only view your AirTags on the Find My app under Items.

Use Find My to locate your lost Apple device or AirTag - Apple Support

Hopefully Apple adds this feature in the future. It is possible to share your AirTag with other people, but not to locate it outside of the Find My app.

Have a nice evening.
