FCPX projects gone in FCP 11

I opened my FCPX10 library with FCP 11. It said it had to upgrade the library. I said OK. It did it. Now all the projects are gone.

I went into a backup and grabbed the library, put it onto an external drive, plugged that drive into my laptop and opened it in FCPX. All the projects are there.

Not sure what to do next. It appears there is something wrong with the FCPX -> FCP11 "library upgrade/update" function that happens when you open the old library.

"The library" - do you have only one? How big is it? Does it have all the media inside.

Maybe there was a problem upgrading a big library (so far, all the libraries that I upgraded showed no such issues).

It is not a great idea to put everything inside one huge library (though I guess a lot people do, and it's still called "Untitled"...)

Usually, a good rule is to use one library per production. It helps keep things organized and

avoids the proverbial "all eggs in one basket".

If this is your case, take this as a wake up call.

Use the older version, and use the opportunity to split the content into more manageable pieces.

Then (after making sure that you have them backed up) try upgrading one smaller library and see how that works.

You may want to use FCP 10.8.1 and

Thanks. Update: I was able to recover the old library from backup. The conversion worked the 2nd try.

Great. I am glad that it worked on the second try.

Good input on this as my library was 1 TB....too big, obvious in retrospect. Will make sure to only put a couple in each one moving forward.

One thing you can easily do to reduce the library size is to delete the generated files. They can be regenerated later if necessary, and they often take a lot more space than your original media.

To do this: select the library in FCP's browser sidebar, and go to File->Delete Generated Library Files...

You can check everything. If you then quit FCP and look at the size your library now occupies, you may be surprised.
