Is the calorie count accurate on Apple Watch Ultra 1?

Is the calorie count accurate? Other users say no; they say it gives higher calorie counts than other apps and graphs that are online. I wonder if the total amount that it gives (example: 3.5 mile hike is 1800 calories) includes the amount of calories your body uses in normal activity throughout the day, PLUS the activity it is monitoring. Any thoughts?

All wrist-worn devices are just making an estimate. In order to get an accurate measurement, you'd need to have your resting metabolic rate measured.

What's important is not the exact number but the trend. I believe the Apple Watch is consistent with itself so if you burned more calories this week than you did last week, you can trust that information.

My other thoughts are that we tend to focus too much on one metric (i.e., steps or calories or miles) and lose sight of the bigger picture: how do we feel?

Up until your last sentence. Wondering if a tool is accurate is not focusing on one metric; it is wondering if the measuring tool for the metric is reliable. That is foundational science. I am now wondering whether Apple has done quality scientific research on this aspect of the watch.

I was not specifically saying that YOU were focused on one thing or that your question was wrong. You asked for thoughts. Those are mine.

I'm sure Apple has done some sort of research. I don't recall having read any, though. As I understand the limits of the accuracy of the category of product, I probably haven't looked very hard for it.
