Brother Printer issues with Sequoia 15.1 update

I have scanned from my Brother MFC-L3770CDW printer menu to my Mini Mac and it has worked great up until I updated my OS. Once updated, I can no longer Scan from my printer menu (quickest scan method for me), I have to use Brothers iPrint&Scan app. I can still print from my computer.

I have deleted the printer and reinstalled it

I have updated the firmware on the Printer

I have reset the printer

Before I reset the printer, it was showing a communication error of some sort, After I reset the printer, the scanning function will not find my Mini.

Mac mini, macOS 15.1

If you're able to print but not scan with your Brother MFC-L3770CDW after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.3.1. - This issue has been reported by other users as well. After trying many things over a few weeks, this (in one second) resolve this problem (Thanks to my buddy ChatGPT):

You might also need to update your printer drivers first which may be why the network settings got turned off. The link is for my model, search for yours and if it does not fix the problem follow part 2 below...

Check Local Network Permissions:

  • Navigate to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
  • Ensure that applications like Brother iPrint&Scan have permission to access the local network. If they're disabled, enable them.

I was having a similar problem printing using AirPrint after the installation of Sequoia. It printed from other devices and via USB. The solution -- which I found when my computer started losing connection to my network -- was to turn off the rotating private wifi setting that is now the default: Use private Wi-Fi addresses on Apple devices - Apple Support. That solved the problem of losing connection with my brand new Eero router and the brand new Brother printer.

I managed to get Brother iPrint&Scan working on Sequoia 15.2 on an M1 MacBook as follows:

  1. Update to Sequoia 15.2
  2. Download CCleaner and completely uninstall any prior versions of Brother iPrint&Scan
  3. Reboot computer
  4. Download fresh version of Brother iPrint&Scan from app store, it will automatically install
  5. Reboot computer once again
  6. Go to System Settings>Privacy & Security>Local Network and make sure Brother Scanner and Brother iPrint&Scan are enabled.
  7. Reboot computer once again
  8. Launch Brother iPrint&Scan
  9. Click Select your Machine
  10. Enter IP address of your network printer/scanner (if your using a network device). I'm using an old MFC-J4510DW which isn't officially supported in Sequoia per the Brother website.
  11. Click Machine Scan Settings and setup your scan.
  12. Click Scan icon on LH side and you should be able to scan.

Your mileage may vary...........best of luck.

I found that the important thing is to make sure any leftover files from a previous install be eliminated. I managed to use CCleaner to do this. Here are alternate instructions from Brother:

Also.....make sure you have any VPN software turned off. Also, make sure of the IP address of your network printer. Personally, powered down my printer to reset it and then did a power up. I hope this helps. Best of Luck.

Done successfully - thank you! the Firmware for the printer group Brother HL-L2400xxx has just been updated I think to bring it in line with OS 15.x I was unable to get the Brother installer software to find the printer on the network but entering the IP address (+Subnet mask and Gateway) manually enabled things to work as the printer could be found.

As you pointed out my mileage did vary slightly!

I have had the same issues. None of my HP printers are working. Apparently drivers supported were limited to MAC OS 14.

My cannon and brother lasers are working with generic drivers, I cannot scan.

Manufacturers were not ready for this. And unlike windows, mac community is limited. As far as I have experienced, every new os release from any institution has its adoption hassles. I recall windows xp not supporting drivers for early on devices from windows 95/98/ME. I remember using my first mac with leopard and later upgraded to another mac with mountain lion, my previous devices had difficulties to onboard.

With my new mac on the 4th gen chip it came pre-installed with sequoia, hence none of my printers are functioning at an optimal grade.

I was having the same issue and spend half the day on the line with I.T. yesterday to no avail but this just solved it in 2 seconds, so thank you! I think when I first updated I got hit with a pop up asking me if I wanted Brother to find & communicate with my network and hit the wrong button not realizing that is needed access since my Brother was connected directly by USB to my MacBook. The barrage of pop ups about all that stuff was very confusing.

I'm glad this procedure worked for you. It has not worked for me. I'm running a 2020 MBP with M1 chip, MacOS Sequoia 15.2. I followed the procedure as best I could (step 6 didn't work until I tried to select my machine, because the entry for Brother iPrint&Scan didn't show up in the list; but once it did, I canceled out of the setup and rebooted). But after I got to Step 12, it gives me a "Connection Error: Select your Brother machine and try again."

Any ideas?
