I have searched in vain for earbuds that receive on the left side so that I can pair them with my watch and leave my phone behind while running.
Most earbuds receive on the right side.
You get very spotty music etc. unless you hold your arm high or change the watch to your right wrist. I'm way too engrained in my habits to do that.

Your wrist is not far enough from your ears that it should make a difference in BT reception.
Both AirPods have a receiver and it's not relayed between the two. That's why you can use only one at a time if you prefer.
