Is it possible to connect an old apple watch 5 to the iphone 16 pro max

The Apple Watch is now connected to the IPhone XR. I want to buy aan IPhone 16 pro max, but I got different answers in different stores about the possibility to connect my (old) Apple Watch 5 series to the New IPhone 16 pro max.

I hope to find experts here who can give me the right answer.
