Hello Tom,
On some Macs, I’m afraid you need to make sure that the correct action is assigned to the Globe or Control key in order for those keys to perform a forward-delete in combination with the backward delete key. Otherwise, the combination either achieves nothing or performs a backward-delete, at least on my MacBook Air.
On my internal keyboard (US International, MacBook Air 13”, macOS 15.1) …
- whenever I do “Fn-Delete” = strike the top right (Delete) key and the bottom left (Globe/fn) key simultaneously …
- the cursor remains in place and apparently nothing happens to the text once the action assigned to the latter modifier key (Globe/fn) key has been set to “Command”;
- the cursor deletes backwards irrespective of whether the action assigned to the Globe/fn modifier key is Caps Lock, Control, Option, Escape, or No Action;
- the cursor deletes forwards only once the action assigned to the Globe/fn modifier key is “Globe"
- whenever I do “Control-D” = strike the strike the top right (Delete) key and the “control” key simultaneously ("Control D"), the cursor deletes forwards only once the action assigned to the “control” modifier key is “Globe”.
I haven’t got a Magic Keyboard.
I’ve tried with two types of external Microsoft keyboards connected to my MacBook Air via USB: in order to make the MS “Control” key delete forwards whenever I strike it simultaneously with the Delete key, the action assigned to that MS “Control” key needs to be “function” (there’s no Globe pic on the MS keyboards I’ve tried).
Hope that helps someone.
