After switching to an iPhone 16 with iOS 18.1, my wife's watch suddenly stopped having the ability to respond to iMessages through dictation. There simply is no microphone option visible in the reply bar. How would one correct this problem?
Thanks! Checked both of those conditions and the watch and phone were enabled. Come to find out, with the update to iOS 18.1, the microphone actually requires pressing the little hand symbol to reveal it. Once my wife found the right icon, it worked!

Did you already check that on the iPhone in Settings/General/ Keyboard -> Dictation is enabled?
Same on the Apple Watch in Settings/General/Dictation -> ON
Any restrictions enabled on the iPhone in Screen Time?

So to recap for other users, having the same issue:
If you see this screen on your watch when trying to type:
Tap on the scribble icon in the right corner to get back to the icons for all input options:
After that tap on the keyboard icon to bring up the keyboard.
And the watch should remember your input method for the next time.
