Remove Monterey, clean install Catalina

I have software that runs on an old iMac with Catalina but will not properly run on a newer iMac with Monterey.

Everything on the newer iMac is expendable - nothing needs to be saved.

Can I format the newer iMac's hard drive and install Catalina?

I am not yet an "Apple Guy", so if my use of terminology is faulty please forgive me (and correct my terminology errors if you'd like).

When I check in "About this Mac" it shows this:

Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Right below "MacBook Pro" it should show the screen size & model year. Apple is making this information harder to see by making an extremely small & dim font that almost blends into the background.

If for some reason this information is not there (sometimes it is not for some unknown reason), then you can get the exact model by entering the system serial number on the check coverage page here (please do not post the serial number on the forum since it is considered personal information):

And yes, I am actually working with the software developer to seek a solution.

That is good. I wish you luck.

If your newer Mac shipped from the factory with Monterey, then that is the oldest version of macOS you can use on that Mac. Besides Catalina is only compatible with Intel Macs. Any Mac which shipped from the factory with Monterey on it is an M-series Mac.

You will need to find an alternative app to replace the previous app that is no longer supported with Monterey. I assume you looked to see if the developer of your software released any newer versions that may be compatible with Monterey and later versions of macOS?

Remove Monterey, clean install Catalina
