Yep, I would have never gotten that from your post, but thanks for clarifying that.
As you may already know Precision Finding relies on the U1 Ultra Wideband.
The expected range for Precision Finding to work effectively is generally 10–15 meters (33–50 feet) in ideal conditions. However, this range can vary depending on a number of factors.
- It the AirTag is indoors, walls, furniture, or other barriers can reduce the effective range of the Ultra Wideband signal. If outdoors, and should the tag be "buried," the range can be severely reduced.
- Other wireless signals, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or devices using similar frequencies, might impact Precision Finding's accuracy.
- Outdoors, where there's a clear line of sight, the range can be closer to the upper limit. Indoors, with obstructions, the range might be less.
- The AirTag's battery health can influence its ability to communicate effectively. As you can imagine, the lower the battery level, the shorter the range.
AFAIK, her sharing this AirTag with you should not affect the Precision Finding range of her iPhone ... but, I have to agree, 3 feet seems to be very poor.
