Turn it into the police or nearby lost and found. The owner is able to track the device, so it is best to have it in a location where they can easily find it. Storing it in your house is not always the safest option. In some cases when the person marks it as lost they may provide contact information if found that will show on the screen when you turn it on, but that is not always the case as it does open the owner up to being scammed.
