My Canon 650C series laser printer cannot be found by my Macbook Pro

I have a Canon MF650Cdw laser printer. I've loaded (deleted and reloaded) the drivers onto my Macbook Pro. When I try to add the printer, I get an error message saying 'Unable to connect to CanonMF650C Series_ipps_tcp.local due to an error' How can I resolve and connect my printer to my computer?

I’m assuming the MF650c is from the same series as the following imageCLASS MF65x series.

There’s confusingly also an Canon i-SENSYS MF65x series.

There’s a firmware update for that printer from roughly two months ago.

Here’s a PDF of the printer manual from Canon:

To update the printer firmware directly from the printer control panel, see page 447 in the user guide.

macOS can use the built-in AirPrint drivers (and which also means no add-on vendor printer drivers are needed), see page 337.

For macOS, here is how AirPrint to print:

AirPrint works both wirelessly, and wired.
