Photos debacle after 18.1.1 update

My iPhone 15 Pro was updated with 18.1.1 the other day. Now my photos are a DISASTER! Navigating photos is no longer intuitive. I can’t find the photos I want, etc. Sounds like plenty of people have the same problem. What can be done?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

For me it became even worse…

The Siri-commands to run a shortcut now fails completely

And the clean mail-app interfaces was completely destroyed with useless visible elements reducing the space of the characters. A bit like the idiotic big “Destination point” in maps..

I get the feeling of the old days, when updating Microsoft’s windows, costing me again hours/days to recover and refind commonly used interface elements.

Jizkid ~ What model of iPhone is it?...

Settings > General > About > Model Name

And what point version of iOS 18 is it running?...

It’s an iPhone 13 Pro

now on 18.3

Got the mail under control again…

But the shortcuts under siri control do not work anymore. Had some easy shortcuts, e.g. for unlocking my door and switching on the power to my computer.

Probably they changed somewhere somewhat, only unclear what… :)

Jizkid ~ With your iPhone 13 Pro possibly being over three years old, it's worth checking for a weak, aging battery. So...

Does your iPhone 13 Pro still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

Thanks for that reaction and that idea Alancito, after your questions I expected that kind of a suggestion. But I do not think that is the problem.

It is very unlikely that “some bits” would fall over during such an update, even the weaker battery would not cause a problem like that. Certainly not as the update was while the phone was on main power.

The update process has checks in itself that would warn if something would have gone wrong, and would certainly have warned if battery power was too low. On Reddit I also see that the 18.3 is a buggy release.

Anyway thanks very much for your support and thinking along with me in this problem.

Additional…. I fixed it.

I saw a message on Flipboard about apple Intelligence, what I do not have, on 18.3. This led me to the settings for Siri.

Over there I switched off and on again all settings belonging to siri and shortcuts. And now it works again.

Slightly odd… but I am happy again concerning this point.

I came up with an answer that works for me. I created a folder on my pc called empty. I sync'ed my phone to that folder. Now my only pics on the phone are in the "recents" folder.

I uploaded all my other folders with pics to DropBox. I can access them from there by folder and not merged into my recents.

Interesting point, I used one of my apps to unload "recents" to folders along the way. It still sees all the pics the way it USED to be. So Apple changed the APP NOT the way the pics are stored.

They could easily undo what they did...they are choosing to not do it. Guessing customers like us don't have enough influence.

Whatever changes Apple made either added new features, or fixed things that many users complained were “broke” (meaning they wanted it to work differently). You are saying that anyone who doesn’t have exactly the same needs and desires as you should be ignored and not get what they want?
