Enhancements Needed for Family Setup on Apple Watch
I recently upgraded my child from a Gizmo 3 to an Apple Watch 10 with cellular, expecting a more reliable experience for location tracking and communication. While the watch itself works well, I’ve been surprised by the limitations of Family Setup, especially considering the investment.
Here are the main issues I’ve encountered:
1️⃣ No Remote Override for Schooltime Mode:
- In emergencies, I need to contact my child during school hours, but I can’t disable Schooltime remotely without being near the watch. Why can’t this be managed through cellular/Wi-Fi connectivity?
2️⃣ Limited Parental Access:
- Only the Family Organizer (me) has full control over the watch. My spouse has minimal access, which is frustrating for shared parenting responsibilities.
3️⃣ Fragmented Controls:
- Managing the watch involves navigating between the Watch app, Screen Time, and various settings on the watch itself. A unified parental control app or interface would make oversight far easier.
What Parents Need:
- Remote management for Schooltime and other key settings.
- Equal access for both parents to manage the watch.
- A streamlined app for all Family Setup controls.
Is anyone else experiencing similar frustrations? Are there workarounds I haven’t discovered, or should we submit this as feedback to Apple?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and advice!
