Unable to connect to “ipad” the icloud account does not use two-factor authentication.

I'm attempting to use my iPad Pro as a sidecar for my MacBook Pro, but when I select the iPad from the laptop's Airplay menu I get the error:

Unable to connect to "Steve's iPad. The iCloud account does not use two-factor authentication.

My MacBook pro is Sonoma 14.3.1, my iPad is 9th generation, and the version is 18.1.1. I have activated Bluetooth; both devices are on the same wireless, and the two-factor authentication is activated in both devices. What is wrong here?

Two-Factor authentication cannot be activated on a device, it's a setting for your Apple ID, not your devices.

Are you sure it's turned on? Seems like the Apple ID (iCloud account) does not currently have it turned on.
