iPad Air 18.1.1 not charging when plugged in.
My iPad Air stopped charging when plugged in. I used multiple outlets, cables, and bricks and had the same result. My iPhone did charge in every outlet/cable/brick combination I tried, so I know it wasn’t the brick or cables (every brick was at least 20W). I made sure the charging port was clean before each attempt.
Went to Genius Bar and they plugged it in and the same thing happened so they replaced it. Got the new one home, restored from iCloud and started to use it. Same thing happened. Again I tested multiple outlets, cables and bricks, and again the iPad wouldn’t charge but the iPhone would.
went back to Genius Bar (this was 2 days after getting the new one) and was told it must be a software issue, and that the only way to fix it would be to erase and set up as new, then redownload all my apps, recreate all my bookmarks, etc. they refused to replace again. Fortunately, all my photos and documents were on iCloud so I didn’t lose them. It took a few hours to set everything up again. Worked fine for a day.
today the problem started again. This time I tested it while the iPad was locked and plugged in and while it was open and plugged in. I noticed that every time the charging percentage went up by 1% it would stop charging. I’d unplug and plug it back in and it would do the same thing. Charge up 1% then stop charging.
at this point I’m out of ideas. I’m going back to the Genius Bar tomorrow but don’t expect them to be able to do anything for me. Has anyone seen something similar? What do I tell the geniuses? So far they haven’t been very helpful.
