Disable auto shutdown/sleep when lid is closed

It is impossible to connect an external monitor and close the MacBook lid without it going to sleep. I bought a $5K MacBook Pro, and this feature is not available on macOS 15.1.1. I have all the correct settings, but it still goes to sleep when I close the lid.

Someone at Apple needs to fix this. A $500 Windows notebook has this function, so why doesn’t macOS include it?

Also, there is no such thing as “System Preferences” and “Energy Saver” in macOS 15.1.1. It is now called “System Settings.” If you want to help others, please use the correct terminology and ensure you’re referencing the appropriate OS version when addressing their issues.

That's how Mac laptops have always worked. Connect an external keyboard and monitor. Then you can wake up the Mac from there. If you want to try and force your Mac to stay awake without such peripherals, you can try Amphetamine. It hasn't been updated in a while so I don't know about its compatibility with MacOS 15.x.

As to your comment, in my experience, people who out of their kindness respond here generally do try to use correct terminology when the version of OS and other details are specified by the questioner. When people don't, it's impossible to know which terminology and directions to use so we make our best guess.

Regards.
