Unable to receive 2FA codes via text with cellular network after updating to iOS 18.1.1

Technically WiFi calling is a VPN tunnel versus a 5G single. Just different transports. VoIP does not use VPNs in most cases but rather specific protocols. Only the big carriers have the feature while the low cost carriers do not.

I am not arguing with you but feel this is going to blow up if you cannot conduct transactions without a 5G cell signal. Using authenticators is really a better option but more complicated for the financial institutions to implement and support. Since I live in a very rural location and my IT job requires some of these situations it will just cause issues.

The higher tech banks, financial institutions are starting to do verifications through their mobile apps. Currently Apple is supporting NFC activation and verification for new and existing credit cards. Several banks are supporting it. Some banks, such as American Express are allowing Face ID (not passcode) as an alternative to 2FA.

I understand that. However, SMS messaging issue over WiFi calling is not all related to OTP /short codes. Other sites like Lowe’s order status cannot be received till cellular service is available for me. This is something that recently stopped working and not directly related to a financial institution changing their policies. i appreciate the insight. Cheers.

Having same issue. Tried working out with carrier (ATT) and no success.

If you use Apple Messages, you can send a Message to other Apple iPhone users, but not Android phone users. Android requires a text message using cellular service from AT&T.

My codes now coming through AT&T wifi. Note my internet is through Hughesnet HT3000W modem connected to new satellite.

Just curious, who’s your carrier?
