iPhone 14 Pro Water Damage Despite Following IP68 Guidelines

Hello Apple Community,

I wanted to share my disappointing experience and seek advice or support. I own an iPhone 14 Pro, which is advertised as water-resistant under IP68 standards (up to 6 meters for 30 minutes). Recently, my phone was briefly exposed to water for less than 1 minute at a depth of about 10 cm—well within these specifications.

Despite this, water vapor formed inside the camera lens shortly afterward, and now the screen has started blinking in colors. I immediately contacted Apple Support and visited an authorized service center. To my dismay, I was told that no repair or replacement would be offered and that I would need to pay full price for a new device.

This feels deeply unfair, as I followed all the usage guidelines provided by Apple. Additionally, I previously had the battery replaced by an Apple Authorized Service Center, and I suspect that repair may have compromised the phone's water resistance. However, I have always trusted Apple’s quality assurance and didn’t expect such an issue with a premium device.

I am now left with a phone that no longer works, despite using it responsibly and within advertised limits. I would appreciate any advice or guidance.

Thank you!

Water Resistant is NOT waterproof. The water resistance of iPhone is tested under strict laboratory conditions and does not really mimic the real world. If you phone was submerged in water and it was damaged, Apple Warranty has never covered liquid damage. I understand your disappointment, but there is nothing anyone here on this user to user only forum can do to help you. You'll have to buy a replacement phone as Apple will NEVER attempt to fix a phone damaged by liquids.

About splash, water, and dust resistance of iPhone 7 and later - Apple Support

Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Liquid damage is not covered under warranty,

To prevent liquid damage, avoid:

  • Swimming or bathing with your iPhone
  • Exposing your iPhone to pressurized water or high velocity water, such as when showering, water skiing, wake boarding, surfing, jet skiing, and so on
  • Using your iPhone in a sauna or steam room
  • Intentionally submerging your iPhone in water
  • Operating your iPhone outside the suggested temperature ranges or in extremely humid conditions
  • Dropping your iPhone or subjecting it to other impacts
  • Disassembling your iPhone, including removing screws

by exposing or submerging your iPhone in water, you did not follow Apple’s guidance on water resistance.

If your iPhone comes into contact with any of these substances, follow the instructions to clean your iPhone.
