Apple Pay Not Working After Update

Jim — I don’t think you’re talking about Apple Pay. I think you’re talking about Apple Account (formerly Apple ID). Cards are not linked to Apple Wallet, they’re added. Are you in Settings app or Wallet app?

That’s because you’ve confused Apple Pay, Apple Cash and Apple Account. These are three separate and unrelated services.

Let’s solve the immediate issue. You need to send Apple Cash to someone is that correct?

Apple Cash is what is used for sending funds to friends and family. It can also be used in junction with Apple Pay to purchase products and services from merchants worldwide.

Apple Pay is a payment service you use with your iPhone to send encrypted data to the merchant and issuing bank. It provides an extra layer of security and privacy to all you your transactions with merchants.

Apple Account is used for the purchase of goods and services from Apple. This includes iTunes, App Store, purchase from Apple Pay.com/store and Apple Retail Stores.

I’m having trouble with Apple Pay since my last update as well. Version 18 I believe. In person, Apple Pay gets declined, and when I use Apple Pay online at sellers that offer that, it fails. My Apple Card works just fine.

I didn’t even know that Apple Pay could be used with anything other than my Apple Card, so I didn’t try others. I’m also not sure of the exact error message - the kid working the register only told me it was declined, and he wasn’t eager to expound on that. I’ll try it again somewhere and see if I can get more info.

Only the issuing bank can decline a transaction. If the bank declines it, the transaction will appear in your Wallet in red and the words declined. When the bank declines a transaction, you can contact their support team and inquire why?

I don’t believe the bank did decline it, because it didn’t show up in Wallet as a declined charge, and because when I ran the physical card itself it went through. I think the kid just said declined because it didn’t work and he wanted to get rid of me.

The exact issue is happening to me too. I use my phone to pay for items at a eftpos machine and it doesn't say insufficient funds - but instead "bad read error" or something "card read error" . I tried the full fleet of cards I had saved on my phone and non worked. Went to a different location and store and same thing happened.

this was since the newest update. Related to update? Who knows. (My phone did get water logged 6months back but made a full recovery,,,, but now with the update is the water drama from so long ago starting to take effect???)

People started posting me too posts but had unrelated issues to your original post. Nothing will get solved this way. Sorry. My advice is to start a new post and include the url to this thread and I can pickup the pieces in regard to your issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.

After updated to IOS 18. I also failed during payment. When I double click side button didn’t respond. I opened wallet I can’t see my card. And I went setting update my shipping address I still can’t. 🙃🙃🙃double click not working

I am having the same issue after updating to 18.1, I have never used apple wallet - but been paying the Apple one/ iCloud subscription via Apple account/ID - now after many payment decline ….. I cannot upgrade iCloud space, access music or Apple TV.

has there been any solution to this matter? Reading thru the thread- I haven’t seen any.

Jeff right now I see 74 people on the thread are having the same issue since the 18.1.1 update. The card is in the wallet and can send money. But we cannot transfer money from Apple Cash to the bank card anymore. It keeps saying add card but when you try the card is already there. And I followed every step you recommended.

Actually you’re seeing about ½ a dozen. Many didn’t understand their issue and posted here not knowing it was unrelated to Apple Pay. For example, your post is concerning Apple Cash and is unrelated to the original poster’s credit card issue.

I’m not sure what steps you followed because it might have been for an unrelated issue.

Let’s start with a couple of questions. Does your card appear in Apple Wallet? Does it appear in previous cards? What iPhone model do you have?
