Puffed back panel in M2 Macbook Air (2022)

For the last ten days or so, the back panel of my M2 Macbook Air (2022) is showing swollen signs (see pic). I was told that it could be due to a swollen battery.

But I'm not sure since the battery health info looks ok:

Health Information:

  • Cycle Count: 94
  • Condition: Normal
  • Maximum Capacity: 100%

Also the laptop is charging fine. And is also working fine.

Today is a Sunday and I'll be taking it to the official service centre tomorrow. But I'm keen to know what possible reasons could exist for this to happen. I did not spill anything on the laptop or expose it to heat. The only difference is that earlier I used to use the machine on a laptop stand, and since the last 12 months, I have been charging it on the table itself, since I now use an external monitor (thru HDMI Cable).

Thanks!

Ravi

This indicates that the battery has failed and is swelling. This is dangerous. Put the MBPro inside a fireproof container (like a metal trash can) outside & away from your home. If the battery swells enough to burst it will erupt into flame; Lithium-ion battery fires are aggressive and difficult to extinguish.

Take it to your service center ASAP to have the battery replaced.
