Please explain the changes in Photo App with version 18.1.1

The update to Version 18.1.1 has drastically changed my Photo App. Images are too small. I can’t find way to adjust them. I can’t figure out the editing …previous version was so simple. I can’t find all my files. The “recent” folder is gone … divided up into many “recent …” folders. And I lost one of my most used photo editor app options!

This is a total game changer for me! And. I can’t reverse it.

I am NOT happy.

One change that seems confusing is that, when you open the main Photos window, you see "Photos" at the top with the most recent pictures and Collections and Albums and stuff at the bottom. So, if you want to see all your pictures, instead of hitting the "Library" button like you used to, now you scroll up, and it says "Library" in the top. NOW you can change the size of the thumbnails! You can make it 5 or 3 or 1 across, just like you could before.

Instead of Recents, you can now change the Library to show pictures in order of Date Captured, as before, or sort by Date Added just like Recents did.

Instead of having two separate views, we have one that can go either way! It's just simpler.

The other great thing about the new system is that there are lots of ways to make it your own. You can eliminate

sections you don't use, and put the ones you want to see at the top. And in some sections, like Pinned, you can choose only the views you like, and rearrange the order to suit you.

I'm still exploring how I can make this all work for me, and it's taking some time. But that's because it has become way more versatile. I'd say, fool with it, and give it a chance…

To change the size of the thumbnails in Library view, I "reverse pinch" the screen, spreading my thumb and forefinger across the surface. This

is from Basic touchscreen gestures in Pages on iPad - Apple Support (CA)

On a horizontal screen here, there's 13 Across:

and 7 across

and 3 across.

If you tap on a picture, it goes to Edit Mode:

The Edit icon,

is supposed to remind us of the adjustments in editing tools, like this:

Clicking on the edit icon gets you to the editing tools

like Cropping and Shadows, etc.

Does this help? I'm not sure about your photo editor-- how do you use it?

I hate what apple has done with my photo app. We should always have the option to stay with what we have. Assumptions should not be that we are going to love it. It is a complete pain I can’t send any old photos to friends. And half the time I am unable to text a recent photo.

Well, you could complain about it, or learn how to use the new features that make it much more flexible and customizable. I think those are the only two options:

I have most of my photos stored on an MacBook Air, I used to be able to edit, crop, enhance and do some simple fixing. Now none of those tools are available.
Even when I search there are no results. All the "fixes" seem to be for iPhones and and iPads. I have both but seldom use them for photography. I use Nikon digital camera

Have you tried repairing your Photo Library?

This is exactly my problem. I am a photographer, too. This has completely complicated everything and I am so ready to switch all of my Apple equipment to something else because this was such a mistake on apple’s part.

I have a really RADICAL idea: Learn to use the new, much more powerful and configurable Photos app.

And its not only about sorting photos. They even made the Video mode so much worse. Moving a video sequence in full display mode is not possible anymore. Precise movie sequence repeating is not possible anymore. It has nothing to do with learning. The photo app was made worse, even if they improved a few details. If I wanted an Android Phone I couldve bought one. I dont need my iPhone to simulate it.

Have you told Apple how you feel? Apple doesn't read in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Meanwhile, there are other photo management apps available in the App Store.

That would require you to learn a new photos app as well and also be prepared for their yearly updates that change the UI. You also have many other Photo apps that you can use in the App Library. The choice is yours to make.

When one user once another feature added, you always have a different user not wanting to have any changes. Photos is built into iOS so having 2 versions would double the size and you would then see complaints about the size of iOS taking up the devices storage space. Just as the users who requested the features did using the Feedback link, you can do that as well.

Richard Taylor,

Can you explain more … I see the Library label. But I don’t see any way to change the photo aspect. Currently it’s 11 photos across full screen, 7 on split screen.

i was in process of reproducing photos for Christmas gifts. I was quite satisfied with the previous set up and it worked well with my photo editor. This new system doesn’t give me access to my photo editor at all!
