You do it on their device.
From: Approve what kids buy with Ask to Buy - Apple Support
See the section below for how to get approval in person.
How children or teens can make a request with Ask to Buy
1. To buy or download an item, tap the price or Get button. Or if you're using an Apple Watch, double-click the side button, then enter your passcode.
2. If asked, enter your Apple ID and password.
3. Tap Ask. If your parent or guardian is nearby, you can tap "approve it in person" and they can approve the purchase directly from your device.
4. After your parent or guardian buys the item, it downloads to your device automatically.
Thank you Limnos. I think I should receive a message that says my child wants to download an app. I can see in her iPhone that she as made the request but I am not receiving a message, email or text to approve. I am on android but have an apple account. Any suggestions. Thank you
I don't use the service but it would not surprise me if the message was sent as an iMessage or as an Apple notification to another Apple device, not email or standard text. Your daughter will have to ask you.
Thank you. There is an auto generated message to ask me on her device. I cannot respond on her device..as the request is sent to my account (in theory, but I can't see anything)..only option I can see is to factory reset her device and say she is older to remove parental controls...which not entirely comfortable with!
