Heart Rate Monitoring/BPM Measurement Issue After WatchOS 11 Update

Hello Apple,

This morning, I updated my Apple Watch to WatchOS 11 around 9:00 AM. Since the update, I’ve noticed an issue with the heart rate monitoring feature. The watch is showing drastic fluctuations in my heart rate—spiking and then quickly returning to normal—even though I haven’t been doing anything more than light activity like walking.

To ensure the readings were accurate, I manually checked my pulse and used the following devices to cross-check the watch’s measurements:

  • A military-grade fingertip heart rate/SpO2 monitor
  • A Welch-Allyn hospital blood pressure monitor with heart rate and SpO2 readings

All of these showed my heart rate to be steady and within normal ranges. The discrepancies appear to be solely with the Apple Watch.

For context, I went to the gym earlier today (6:00 AM) before updating the software. During a cycling class, my heart rate readings on the Apple Watch were consistent with my effort level, matching my Bluetooth-connected Polar heart rate chest strap to my Apple Watch Ultra-2.

It seems like there may be a bug in the updated heart rate monitoring program. I’d appreciate if this could be looked into thoroughly. If anyone else has experienced this issue or has troubleshooting suggestions, I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you!

Apple Watch Ultra 2, watchOS 11
