Battery Health Drop After iOS 18.1 Update – Feedback and Concerns

Dear Apple Team,

I recently updated my iPhone to iOS 18.1, and I’ve noticed a significant drop in battery health. Before the update, my battery health was at 100% with 96 charge cycles. However, within a few days of updating, it has dropped to 97%, which is quite disappointing.

I understand that software updates may include recalibrations, but such a sharp decrease is concerning. This raises questions about whether the update itself is affecting battery longevity or if it’s purely a reporting issue.

I appreciate the new battery management features, like customizable charge limits and optimized charging, but I hope future updates will address any potential issues causing this rapid decline. It would be reassuring for users to know their devices are being accurately assessed and protected.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to updates or clarifications regarding this issue.

Sincerely,

We are not apple, we are apple users

Droppings in battery health are not concerning, I am on 94% battery health and in the use of my phone I see no difference coming from 100%.

if the battery health drops below 80% it is time to have it serviced, but this will not happen really soon, my moms iPhone XR from 2017 is still at 83%!

Before the update, my battery health was at 100% with 96 charge cycles.

The phone should have been at 96% since Battery Health is expected to decline at about 1% for every 25 charge cycles.

However, within a few days of updating, it has dropped to 97%, which is quite disappointing.

Your battery is doing better than average. It should be at 96%.

Your battery declined slower than normal for 3-4 months, but averages have a way of averaging out over time. Battery decline is not linear. The battery might go another 2-3 months without dropping at all, then drop 2-3%. Or, it might drop another 1% fairly soon, then go another 3 months without declining. It's all a roll of the dice.

At 200 cycles, your battery will be at about 92%

At 300 cycles, your battery will be at about 88%.

All that really matters is to remember to replace the battery when the Battery Health is down to 80%.

The information below may help in your understanding of batteries.

Batteries, like people are individuals. No two people age exactly the same and batteries don’t age the same either. The exact usage, chemical makeup, storage conditions, exposure to heat and cold and about a dozen other factors mean that every battery ages differently. Battery aging is not a linear (straight line) and degrades at different rates as the chemicals in the battery age and other factors mentioned above. Apple expects your battery health to be at 80% after 24 months. If your battery health misses that expectation, contact Apple Support.
