My daughter has an iPhone 11 which is configured with parental control. She apparently found out that she can lock access to certain apps (WhatsApp and Photos for example) using Face ID. As her parents is there any way my wife and I can override the lock? So much for parental control …
From this Apple support article:
Children under 13 in a Family Sharing group can’t lock or hide apps. Anyone aged 13 to 17 in a Family Sharing group can lock or hide an app, but a parent or guardian in the family group can see that the app was downloaded and how much time it’s used, and restrict access to it using Screen Time. (These ages vary by country or region.)
If you wish to suggest to Apple that parental control allow a parent to deny the ability to lock or hide an app, you can suggest it via Apple's Feedback pages:

Up to you how you handle your family, but if it were me and my child locked me out of an app, I'd lock out his/her use of that app entirely. But again, you can suggest more granular control ability to Apple via the feedback page.

thank you for your reply, I do have access to whatever my daughter installs or has access to etc. What I found odd is that she can "lock me out" of certain apps by activating the "require FaceID" to open that specific app...IMO that should be not allowed for a phone under parental control as it kind of defeats (part of) the purpose.

I completely agree, this time she just remove the lock upon my request and all ended well.. ;)
I think in general it would be indeed interesting to restrict the "require Face ID" option to users out of parental control..or add the option to unlock the app with a code in alternative to Face ID (just like to unlock the whole phone..)
