period is correcting to a small x on notes

I am having a very unusual issue with my notes. I am trying to type a period, but it is coming up as a small x. This is only happening when the period is at the very end of the screen before it tries to go onto another line. When I try to copy and paste the same sentence with the period, it also changes it to the small x. Please help.
