Changing Apple ID for kids account

Now my child uses an iPad with my Apple ID. What happens with all the apps when I switch my ID to kids Apple ID? Do I have to pay for apps and download them again? Thank you!

iPad Air, iPadOS 17

Purchases (apps, media, and subscriptions) are all permanently tied to the Apple Account that was used to get them initially. You can share many items with Family Sharing. For kids you may also wish to use Ask To Buy. Note that data associated with an app may or may not transfer. If it is linked to a specific Apple Account it will not. If it is an account set up by the app and is hosted remotely then it should.

Note that as soon as it is feasible, each child should have their own account as this app-account linkage problem will just perpetuate when you later decide each child should have their own account. Only one child will get everything purchased by their current joint account. Note that you should have at least one device per account. iPhones and iPads cannot be signed into multiple accounts for the purposes of this discussion.
